Designing within Concept Specialties
The world that we know is comprised of the concept specialties in the video game industry. We have characters for people. We have costumes for clothes. We have creatures for animals. We have environments for places. We have vehicles for modes of transportation. We have weapons for the literal weapons of the past, present, and future. We have props for things — all the other things! And we have mechs or mechas for robots.
That’s all. When you design your IP, consider doing it the entertainment design way:
- Character
- Costume
- Creature
- Environment
- Vehicle
- Weapon
- Prop
- Mech / Mecha
It is a simple thing, once you start. Don’t think too hard about it.
Try it. If you already do, then you know what you’re doing.
But it you don’t already – then try it.
