Bored? Right. How bored are you again?
So if you are already strapped in to a massively long IP, then I can do very little for you. You must finish! You can’t quit. However!
You can always find ways to keep your interest high through external things.
Do you want to change up the type of music you listen to while you work?
Do you want to drive a different route to work? That will get your attention quick.
Do you want to change up your routine at home before or after work?
Can you meet up with a friend at lunch, or go somewhere new?
When you can’t change your commitment for your IP, try changing your externals.
It is very hard to tell someone who’s done something a million times, “draw it like it’s your fourth time.” It’s impossible.
So do the routine thing for your IP, and change everything else outside of it.
Okay, so here is the next questionable item of the day.
Are you bored because it’s too hard for you?
Some people get frustrated when things get hard.
Other people get super excited about the challenge.
But it could be that you’re checking out because the thing that you have to do is something you don’t know how to, or it just seems mentally painful to go through with what you consider dull.
If it’s too hard for you, consider looking for the easiest part in the challenging task. Do that first. See what looks next easiest. Only do what is easy first, and take down the challenge that way. You don’t have to do the super hard thing first the way another coworker might. Do what is easiest first, then go down the line.
Finally, are you bored because you have lost interest, due to a lack of challenging things?
So if you said yes to the above question, then this is not you. However, if you said no to the above question, see where you are here.
If you are someone who is excited with challenging tasks for projects, then if things just got way easier for you, you’ll be yawning all day long.
There is also, “everything is the same and so steady, I’m bored,” but not a lot people go to positions like yours if that’s the case, because there’s always a challenge somewhere about to happen.
Once you figure out why you’re bored, you can figure out how to remedy it.
If you like challenges and all of a sudden, they have flattened out thanks to your team, don’t cry at their efficiency. Instead, think, “Can I change my route to work every day this week? That would put the challenge back in me. Or maybe I can work out at a different gym.”
There are many things you can do, but the first thing is to decide, “what makes me bored? Why do I get bored? How can I get interested again?”
If things are too easy, too steady and predictable, or too hard, you could get bored. Know which one is you and figure your way out, either with friends and managers, or teammates and family members.
